Black and white original mounted print of Wing Commander James Fraser Barron with other New Zealand Soldiers on the steps of the New Zealand Forces Club, London with the high commissioner of New Zealand to the United Kingdom, Hon. Bill Jordan and his wife. Barron was known as Fraser and is standing centre front besides Mrs Jordan. Photograph taken after King George VI had pinned medals of Distinguished Service Order (DSO) and Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) on to Fraser's chest at Buckingham Palace. After the ceremony Bill Jordan took Fraser to lunch at the New Zealand Forces Club. Fraser was a bomber pilot who served with the Pathfinder No. 7 Squadron. At the time this photograph was taken Fraser was 23 years old. On verso of photograph notes that Fraser went from Flight Sargent to Wing Commander in 23 months. Fraser was killed in action over Le Mans, France on 20th May 1944 during WW2.
