Brief History
Wagon Ua 152 was built by the New Zealand Railways in 1901 as a 30 foot gas storeholder wagon. Four of these Ua-1 wagons were built between 1901 and 1915, three were allocated to the North Island and one to the South Island. These wagons were used to transport 'Pintch' coal gas from the Gas Works to various station yards, and used to replenish gas supplies in gas-lit carriages. This wagon was originally fitted with a riveted gas tank which was later replaced by a welded tank in the 1940s or 1950s. In later years, it was used as an oil storage wagon outside the diesel depot in the Westfield yard. Only the underframe of this wagon remains.
