Brief History
Box wagon X 317 is one of the X-4 series built between 1905 and 1914. The series were used to carry dairy produce and some were used to carry coffins from Auckland Railway Station to the cemetery at Waikumete. The plug door would suggest that it may have been used for this purpose. In 1938 it was reclassified to E 1151 and then renumbered in circa 1978 to E 323. This wagon was written off in February 1980 at Taumaranui and came to MOTAT.
