Description
ambrotype showing a young man with styled dark hair.

The image shows from the waist upwards. He is wearing a dark jacket with a lighter waistcoat and white shirt with a large dark coloured bow tie. One shiny button shows at the top of the shirt. The man is looking towards the viewer. His left arm is extended and bent at the elbow but can only part of the arm can be seen.

Encased in a dark brown leather case with a oblong floral pattern surrounded by leaves in a curly pattern, hinged, with a central brass hook that latches onto a hoop on the upper edge. The inside of the case has a faded red coloured plush lining that has a floral pattern of four flowers in the middle surrounded by a circle of flowers and leaves. The oval image is within a plain gold coloured metal mat. The rectangular surround is metal with a spiral pattern running along the edges ending with a stylised flower at each corner. The rectangular outer edge is faded red fabric.
