Description
Custom made replica set of the medals donated by Les Munro to MOTAT in April 2015.
Set of ten medals, court mounted, on metal pin with solid backing. Fabric label from NZ Medals Ltd attached to back of mounting. Made by New Zealand Medals Ltd, Remuera Auckland.

From Left to Right:
1. "Companion of the Distinguished Service Order"
The medal is a gold (silver-gilt) cross, enamelled white and edged in gold. In the centre, within a wreath of laurel, enamelled green, is the imperial crown in gold upon a red enamelled background. On the reverse is the royal cypher in gold upon a red enamelled ground, within a wreath of laurel, enamelled green. A ring at the top of the medal attaches to a ring at the bottom of a gold "suspension" bar, ornamented with laurel. At the top of the ribbon is a second gold bar ornamented with laurel. The red ribbon is 1.125 in (2.86 cm) wide with narrow blue edges.

2. "Companion of the Queens Service Order" - "For Public Services"
The medal is a stylised manuka flower with five petals, which contains the effigy of Queen Elizabeth surrounded by a red circle inscribed FOR PUBLIC SERVICES, crowned at the top. The ribbon has a traditional Māori Poutama motif of black, white and red diagonal 'steps' in the centre with red stripes along each edge of the ribbon.

3. "The Distinguished Flying Cross" 1943
The medal is a cross flory. The horizontal and bottom bars are terminated with bumps, the upper bar with a rose. The medal's face features aeroplane propellers superimposed on the vertical arms of the cross and wings on the horizontal arms. In the centre is a laurel wreath around the RAF monogram surmounted by an Imperial Crown. The reverse features the Royal Cypher in the centre and the year of issue engraved on the lower arm '1943'.The ribbon is white with purple broad diagonal stripes.

4. "The 1939-1945 Star"
This bronze six-pointed star has a circular centre with the "GRI/VI" monogram, surmounted by the Royal crown, and inscribed "THE 1939-1945 STAR". The ribbon has three equal vertical stripes of dark blue, red and light blue.

5. "The Air Crew Europe Star" - "France and Germany"
This bronze six-pointed star has a circular centre with the "GRI/VI" monogram, surmounted by the Royal crown, and inscribed "THE AIR CREW EUROPE STAR". The ribbon is light blue with black edges, with a narrow vertical yellow stripe on each side between the light blue and the black. clasp has been attached to bar "FRANCE AND GERMANY".

6. "The Italy Star"
This bronze six-pointed star has a circular centre with the "GRI/VI" monogram, surmounted by the Royal crown, and inscribed "THE ITALY STAR". The ribbon has five equal stripes of red, white, green, white and red.

7. "The Defence Medal"
On the obverse of this medal is the uncrowned effigy of King George VI, marked "GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX F:D:IND:IMP". On the reverse are two lions flanking an oak sapling and a crown. The start and end years of the Second World War are at the sides (1939 on the left and 1945 on the right), and wavy lines representing the sea are below the lions. The words "THE DEFENCE / MEDAL" appear below the wavy lines. The centre of the ribbon is flamed-coloured, and the edges are green, symbols of the enemy attacks on Great Britain.

8. "The War Medal 1939-45"
On the obverse of this medal is the effigy of King George VI, marked "GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX ET INDIAE:IMP". On the reverse is a triumphant lion trampling on a dragon, marked "1939 / 1945". The ribbon is the red, white, and blue.

9. "The New Zealand War Service Medal"
On the obverse of this medal is the effigy of King George VI. On the reverse is a fern motif and inscribed "FOR / SERVICE TO / NEW ZEALAND / 1939 - 1945". Ribbon has a central black stripe with white stripes on each edge.

10. "The New Zealand 1990 Commemorative Medal"
The medal is made of gilt metal and is circular in shape. On the obverse of the medal is the Effigy of the Sovereign surrounded by the inscription "ELIZABETH II QUEEN OF NEW ZEALAND", and on the reverse is the official 1990 Symbol (a stylised kotuku - white heron) surrounded by the inscription "NEW ZEALAND 1990 COMMEMORATION". The ribbon consists of nine narrow stripes of red ochre, white, red ochre, white, black, white, red ochre, white, and red ochre.
