Description
Courtenay six valve mantle radio, model 36.
Wooden body, oval frequency face in centre right of radio with five dials (two missing) below face. Frequency face is black with red, green and cream lettering and a white coloured double ended ‘hand’. Face is labelled “Courtenay”. Small light(?) in very top right. Speaker is square and features on centre left of front of object and is covered with a gold coloured patterned fabric. Four horizontal protruding design features curve around the left had side of the radio and in front of speaker.
The reverse of the radio is open and the internal mechanisms are visible. There is a circular, green and yellow sticker on the back of the speaker, printed, “COURTENAY / PAT NOS 1972345 & 1984800 / KNOWN FOR TONE”. Two plates and a sticker are attached to the back of the electrical component. The first plate is the maker’s plate “N.Z. / COURTENAY / MADE FOR / TURNBULL & JONES LTD. / BY RADIO CORPORATION OF NEW ZEALAND LTD”; The second is a blue patent sticker for Australia; the third is another plate: “MODEL 36 NO 35332 / […]”.
