Floral pattern to upper portion of dress, with a scalloped fringe pattern to lower third of dress and a centre panel around dress featuring a straight fringe pattern. Right side of dress, below the centre panel, has had a panel of lace added that repeats the floral pattern from the upper portion of the dress – this panel is 8mm longer than the rest of the hem.
Brief History
This delicate pink embroidered silk net lace wedding dress with drop waist and scalloped hem was purchased in Manawatu by the bride-to-be of a local businessman. The absence of any maker’s tags and the relative affordability of this dress suggest that it was locally made and reflects the efforts of retailers to adopt the latest fashion trends abroad, but using locally sourced materials and production equipment gave such dresses a unique ‘kiwi’ style.
