Description
Medal [Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire]
Box: Black, marked "C.B.E.MILY", hinged opening with cream silk lining. Makers mark stamped inside "GARRARD & CO. LTD. / Goldsmiths, Jewellers, &. / TO THE KING / By Special Appointment / TO THE CROWN / 24, ALBEMARLE ST, / LONDON, W.1.". Felt covered insert for medal in base.
Medal: Silver Cross (with blue insert) with circular emblem in centre in red and gold, marked "FOR GOD AND THE EMPIRE", reverse: "GJR" with crown. Crown attached to top of medal with metal loop above.
Ribbon: 2nd type - 1936 onwards. Awards under the Civil Division of the Order since 1936 have had a 38mm ribbon of rose-gray, edged with narrow stripes of pearl grey. Awards under the Military Division of the Order are distinguished with a narrow central stripe of pearl-grey.
Note: Small rectangular card with blue printed writing "Instructions as to wearing Insignia."
