Description
Telephone exchange. Upright dark coloured wooden desk with shelf/desktop. Desk lid is red and hinged with a keyhole on face of it. Inset on desk is 2 rows of 15 jacks with red bakelight(?) bases with metal plugs attached to white cables; 2 rows of 15 metal switches one row had black tops the other had red with a 16th one on end with white top inset into top of desk with metal plates. Upright over desk also painted red, has been inset with a slight recess with 2 sets of holes, one set is made up of black frame with circular holes (5 rows of 10) covered with a glass pane, these are holes to display numbers (numbers in black on white pearl background); the second is a series of jacks (5 rows of 10) with numbers pated next to them (most have fallen off). Upright of desk has a light switch labelled "ALARM" and a socket labelled "CORD / TEST". Brass bell on left hand side of desk. Eyeball indicators. CASE: Wooden caes, not original for switchboard, larger at bottom than top in shape of writing desk has metal bracing and is nailed together, marked "Ericsson / THE SNR. TECHINCIAN / DELICATE / TELEPHONE / APPARATUS / HANDLE / WITH CARE"
