Telephone Exchange / Switch Board wooden desk with shelf/desktop, part of shelf/desktop is hinged and inlaid with metal panel, shelf has coloured switches (Grey, Black, Yellow, Green, Red), a rotary phone dial numbered 0-9, jacks/plugs in two rows coloured (Red, Black, Green), white round dome lights, a 'Calculagraph' which has black handles and glass face. Upper panel of unit above shelf has round dome lights coloured (red, green, white), numbered sockets above some sections of these place names are slotted in 'TAKAPAU' 'PALMERSTON NORTH B.W.' 'PALMERSTON NORTH', 'ORMONDVILLE' 'NORSEWOOD' 'DANNEVIRKE' 'WEBER' 'PAHIATUA' 'TEL BUREAUX PTL FIRE POLICE MB', a separate wooden upright was used to hiding cables, a display label found in back of machine reads 'PEEL CONNOR TULL BOARD // CABLE TURNING SECTION. // INSTALLED AT DANNEVIRKE IN 1926 // & USED CONTINUOUSLY UNTIL // 1988 WHEN REPLACED BY A NEW G.S.3. TOLL BOARD'.
