Description
Velocette, 2-cylinder motorcycle. This motorcycle has a quiet, water-cooled engine with a flat-twin cylinder, 149 cc motor. The LE was rather revolutionary in design. Along with the side valve, water-cooled engine, it had shaft drive and hand-lever starting.
Brief History
The Velocette LE was made from 1949, firstly with a flat-twin cylinder, 149 cc motor. The Mark II was produced from 1951 with a 192 cc motor like this one. The LE marked a development in design because, along with the side valve and water-cooled engine, it had shaft drive and hand-lever starting. These features made the bike expensive to produce and it cost more to buy than other bikes did at the time. Subsequently, it did not gain the market share that Velocette had hoped for. However, the quiet, water-cooled engine made it attractive for use by Police forces in England, New Zealand and other parts of the world.
