Brief History
Ub 526 was built by the New Zealand Railways Workshops in 1920 as a Ub-2 series steel platform wagon. It was built as a 37½ foot steel platform bogie wagon. It was in general service for many years, before eventually being modified for container use and used on Auckland's Freyburg Container Terminal as a staff training wagon. This type of wagon was used extensively throughout the New Zealand Railways for general purpose goods, timber, motor vehicles, and farm implements. It was donated to MOTAT by Auckland Waterfront Comission. It is in service on the Western Springs Railway and carries a container.
