Flat Wagon - U 776 - 30 ft bogie wagon with side stakes for cartage of timber, etc.

U 776 built 26/06/1926 at Newmarket Shops (capacity:20 tons, udf:BP X. 3922, info:NZR LOCO 63-1916 Wagons (Archive NZ Series 17560 RW1722/17)). Brief History
U 776 was built as a 30 ft. steel bogie platform wagon by the New Zealand Railways in 1926 (U-3 series). 120 of this type were built between 1906 and 1924?? 61 were built for North Island service and 59 for South Island. They were used extensively throughout the railways system for transporting anything from cars to timber with a load of 20 tons. A modified wagon of this type of is in use today to carry containers by Kiwi Rail.
