Description
Wagon - ZC11 - bogie special purpose wagon for beer traffic, built to meet needs of special needs traffic of 1970s. Good heavy duty underframe. Interior converted for palletised loads. Sides modified, doors one side only.
Brief History
ZC 11 was originally Vb 525, an insulated meat wagon built as a Vb 6 between 1935 and 1940. In 1974 it was re-built for beer traffic as a bogie box wagon and had lightweight plywood sides and doors fitted. It was reported that half the load of beer went missing on its inaugural run to Wellington. When it was put out of service, it came to MOTAT where it is now used by the Western Springs Railway as a way and works vehicle housing track working equipment.
