Brief History
Zp 186 was 1 of 116 Zp-2 wagons built by the New Zealand Railways between 1917 - 1930. It was built as a 33 foot long, 2-door bogie covered goods wagon. This class was distinctive in that they were fitted with a single king-post underframe instead of the normal queen-post. In its later life, it was used by New Zealand Railways at the freight yard in Newmarket as a material store. It came to MOTAT in 1974.
