Description
Grey/Beige rectangular unit, one side has two grey panel doors, other side has four slots of data discs with blue release handles one is empty, number labels '134', '130', '132', 'CES'. Both ends have perspex revealing inner electrical components.
Brief History
This disk drive was used with the IBM System 360, a mainframe computer launched in 1964 that introduced compatibility that was quite revolutionary at the time. The S/360 was designed to replace IBM’s 1401 mainframe, which was popular but could not be expanded or upgraded.

IBM’s System/360 was a family of six computers and 44 peripherals. Programmes for one System/360 computer ran on all, allowing customers to start small and expand their system as needed.

Despite the rapid development of computer technology since the 1960s, fundamental technical concepts introduced with the System/360 continue to be part of the backbone of the general-purpose computer industry.
