Description
Up right rectangular unit on four wheels with red strip of metal across centre with makers mark 'IBM 2401 I // MAGNETIC TAPE UNIT' and Perspex panels top and bottom, top section has two magnetic tape reels and heads for reading them (much like a cassette tape player), one reel is grey 'IBM' other is clear plastic with blue label 'Storage Master...' and a white sticker handwritten 'ARCHIVE // for January 1989 // 30-1-89 // 6250 to 20' tape hangs from this reel and is visible in bottom Perspex section. On top of the unit is venting and there is a box unit with 'B [8] 2' and ten coloured buttons two are the blank (cream) others read 'TAPE INDICATE', 'CB', 'FILE PROTECT', 'READY', 'RESET', 'START', 'UNLOAD', 'RESET', and a six digit counter, back of unit is a red panel door with 'IBM 2401 i // MAGNETIC TAPE UNIT'
