Description
Dark brown ceramic bowl. Straight sided with white unglazed edge on the foot. Black Air New Zealand double koru logo on side.
Brief History
The brown-glazed koru tableware was designed for Air New Zealand's DC10 aircraft economy service. It was made in New Zealand by Crown Lynn and designed in-house by Dave Jenkin and Mark Cleverley. The pieces were made to be stackable and fit on passenger trays. The first order in 1973 totalled 330,000 pieces highlighting the growth of domestic air travel in New Zealand at the time. To speed up the manufacturing process this range was produced using a ram press, which presses clay into moulded shapes.
