Description
A ceramic dishes, small, made by Crown Lynn Potteries, Auckland. Colour: teal blue/green with a Maori motif. The motif depicts the stylised Maori representation of the head of a whale. The base of the dish is white and in the centre, in brown lettering, are the words: "Air New Zealand by Crown Lynn Potteries New Zealand". The Air New Zealand motif appears after the word "Air".
Brief History
This dish is part of the tableware produced for Air New Zealand's DC8 aircraft service. The duck egg blue series began in 1965 and ran until 1972. This series was designed with vitrified ceramic to be durable, but thin and easily stackable for service. The motif represents the stylised head of a whale, often depicted on Māori pātaka or storehouses.
