Description
IBM 727 magnetic tape unit. Upright rectangular unit on four wheels, painted grey, door at front with silver frame and strip of metal across centre (that has a dial in the middle, and four buttons either side - in dark blue and white, black button handle on left side to open door) with glass panels top and bottom of door. On top front of door in maker's plate "IBM 727 / MAGNETIC TAPE UNIT". Inside has one magnetic tape reel and heads for reading two (much like a cassette tape player), the Reel is grey plasticone with label "IBM"and has been snapped in half on frace portion. Panels on the rest of the machine are missing. Makers plate has been removed. A.C. Motor inside unit is coloured metallic blue with red stickers, marked "Crompton Parkinson / DONCASTER / A.C. MOTOR / No. SS524NL1S"
