Description
Personal flying gear of Arthur Frank Tate, Flying Officer No. N.Z. 415387 RNZAF (131 Squadron - 1943-1944). Cover (water cushion), dark grey with 2 cloth straps. Markings on the cover: 27C/2138 Type A. This cover has a zipper running down 2 sides at right angles. On one end is a canvas tag with a brass ring in the centre. This cover is part of a survival pack for a seat type parachute. It is meant to supply the pilot with drinking water in the event he has to evacuate his aircraft. The odd cut in the middle is for the loop of the parachute that goes between the legs and through which the lower straps are passed. Date: circa 1950s-60s.
