Description
Fell brake van on central rail track. This is the only survivor of the fell brake vans which operated on the Rimutaka Incline. It was built at Petone Workshops in 1898. Worked on the four kilometre Rimutaka Incline until closed in 1955/56, then sent to Rewanui Incline Greymouth until 1966 (1966-1969). The van was used to assist breaking for descending trains.
