Motor Velocipede motorised jigger. W.W. 5146. Ex New Zealand Railways, Whangarei.

Motorised jigger, WW5146. Has the appearance of a motorcycle with tall curved front panel and visor. Wooden framed with padded seat and wooden storage box at back. Painted red. Two main wheels and two smaller outrigger wheels on the left. Handles at front and back painted black, for lifting onto track.
Brief History
A Motor Velocipede is a motor bike on rails which is supported by an outrigger on the second rail. They were used throughout New Zealand Railways by senior track and signals and engineering staff for inspections and accessing isolated sections of track. They were powered by a 4 stroke petrol engine, with transmission through a 3 speed gearbox and chain drive to the rear wheel.
