Description
Partial view of a Hercules C130 on the tarmac, probably at Christchurch airport. Part of the right side of the body, two propellers and part of the right wing can be seen. Between the two propellers is the spare fuel tank. NIOST and the American flag are on the body of the plane in front of the tail. The combination of the civil registration and American flag means the plane was probably used by the United States Science Foundation to visit the Antarctic sometime between 1960 and 1998. There is a truck with an empty trailer parked at the back end of the body. There are two men standing behind the trailer. There are two men standing on the tarmac next to the trailer. To the left is a partical view of a front end loader. In the background is a partial view of the tower, runway and fields. From the way the shadows lie this photograph was taken into the sun. See 10-0648 for a similar but darker image. The lack of skis on the wheel assembly could indicate that it was summer in Antartica when the photo was taken.
