Description
Phaeton buggy with harness, black body and wheels, blue panels, 4-wheeled, 6 seater, 2-horse. Maker's plate at rear: Cousins & Cousins, Auckland. From donation agreement: Large group of owner-driven carriages, with a body frame higher under the seat than anywhere else. Most commonly used by ladies and businessmen about town. The name 'phaeton' first appeared in a patent in 1788, but was later applied loosely prefixed by the name of its manufacturer, eg 'Stanhope Phaeton'. The name phaeton comes from Greek mythology.
