Description
Studio portrait of a man and woman with seven children matted in a white surround. Originally in an embossed metal fame. The portrait shows a seated man and woman surrounded by the children. Two girls are seated on a rug at the front of the group. From right to left: Isabelle Bruce (seated), a girl, William Bruce (seated) with a baby boy on his knee, a boy. Standing at the back on either side of their father are two more boys. All are facing the viewer. Mrs Bruce is wearing a dark dress with white decorated spill of material hanging from a collar. Mr Bruce and the three older boys are wearing dark suits with ties. The baby has a round white collar over a dark tunic that is held with a white belt. The three girls are wearing lighter coloured frocks. The frocks on the two on the right have been decorated with lace - a circular band above a v shaped band. The frock of the girl on the left has been smocked in bands from the collar down the shoulders. On the right is part of a floral patterned chair seat and in the background are two pillars set against the wall.
