Description
Endean Building, on the corner of Queen and Quay Streets, with flames coming out of the windows on the third and fourth floors. There is a fire appliance sending two streams of water up towards the windows on the third floor. There is an extended ladder to the right of the water being pumped onto the fire. It ends close to the base of the windows on the fifth floor and there appears to be a figure at the top of the ladder. There is a crowd of shadowy figures standing on the road watching both the fire and the fire fighters. The photograph has been taken from Quay Street, at an angle that shows the corner and both sides of the building. On both sides of the building, at second floor level, are signs for London Dental. Along the ground floor awning are a series of signs advertising a range of businesses. They include Keldrum, Travelling rugs, bags and trunks, The Clobbery, Kaiapoi rugs, Rugs, Hatters, Mercers, Clothiers, Outfitters, S. Stone & Co. boot and shoe importers, Oceanic fresh fish markets and Hellaby butchery. At the front right is part of a car. In the mid right is the building on the opposite corner of Queen Street. The sign on the corner is for J. Green. Between the car and the corner building is a fenced off area probably on the road. In the right background is the building next to Endeans Building. While it is not burning, the flames are reflected in its windows. It is about the same height as the Endean Building with two rooms with domed roofs at either end of the building.
