Description
A long drop, or outside toilet. Located between Potter Cottage and Lawler Cottage.
Brief History
'Long drop' is believed to be a New Zealand name for a particular kind of outdoor toilet known as a pit or dry latrine. It refers to an outside toilet which consists of a deep hole in the ground, with a toilet seat above it. Long drops were common in Victorian New Zealand before the development of sewerage systems, and many old New Zealand baches had long drops when there was no inside toilet – some still do.
