Maker and Role
Surveyor's chain tape, made by Chesterman-Sheffield. It measures up to 300 feet. The tape is a solid metal strip, articulated at several points by a swivel. The tape has a small brass/copper rivet every foot, and a larger metal marker every 10 feet. There is a metal loop at both ends of the tape, both of which have '300 FT' engraved on them. The reel that the tape is wound around is metal with remnants of black paint on it. It is quite rusty, with flakes of metal. There is a textile handle attached to the reel. It is mounted on a circular metal base, which allows the reel to rotate when the tape is extended or retracted.
