Description
Concorde model aircraft; white/navy blue/red/orange nose.
Brief History
This model is of the supersonic transport aircraft, Concorde. Imagined during the 1950s, the Concorde came into reality by 1969.
Twenty of these supersonic aircrafts were built, and they were operated by BOAC (British Overseas Airway Corporation) and Air France from 1976 until 24 October 2003 when the fleet were retired. The Concorde is powered by four Rolls Royce engines and first reached Mach 2 (twice the speed of sound), on 4 November 1970. Concorde has a maximum speed of Mach 2.05 or over 2000 km/h, a flying range of 5,110km and a maximum altitude of over 18 km (60,000 feet).
This model was gifted to former Prime Minister, Robert Muldoon. In December 1984 Sir Robert Muldoon offered to donate his collection to MOTAT, and the model planes arrived in early 1985. This collection was placed on display over the summer months of 1985.
