Navy blue woollen uniform double breasted jacket for Guard. Left front: waist height pocket placed on level, breast pocket placed on diagonal. Right front: two pockets at waist height placed on diagonal angle.
One silver coloured metal monogrammed button on each cuff, some buttons removed. Two buttons at front; one silver finish, one gold finish. Monogram states 'NZR', silver buttons have King's crown (George VI) on them and gold button has Queen's crown (Elizabeth II). Metal of button implies rank- silver for guards, porters etc, gold for Station Master.
Due to King's crowns, era roughly up until 1952 when George VI died and Elizabeth ascended. However, uniforms were sometimes continued to be worn even after becoming out of date.
Navy blue synthetic lining to jacket on torso, cream pinstriped synthetic lining on sleeve.

Label at neck stating 'Roslyn N.Z.' likely referring to Roslyn Mills of Dunedin, manufacturers of such clothing objects as knitted wool long johns.
