Description
A paper packet once containing nine silver coloured buttons- 3 small, 6 large. Two small made by Buttons Ltd, Birmingham. Four large and one small by Firmin and Sons, London. Two large by J.R. Gaunt & Sons Ltd, London. All Firmin and Buttons Ltd have brass backs, all J.R. Gaunt and Sons have silver coloured metal backs. Packet has printed on front in dark brown ink the information for 'W.R. Bock & Son Ltd. GENERAL ENGRAVERS and BADGEMAKERS Wellington' and handwritten statement 'Chief Traffic Officer'. Buttons used on uniform jacket as a way to indicate rank. Also, due to metallic finish of buttons, a person of this rank could be easily identified from a distance.
