Description
A metal and enamel hat badge. Blue enamel, silver coloured metal, red enamel. The crown on top of badge signifies that the Chief is a Regional Chief. Attached to centre front of hat in use (Chief also had braid on peak of brim and fabric brim to signify rank). Two silver metal loops at back of badge. Would be secured inside hat by pin.
Brief History
Worn by Mr Leicester Smith, a former Chief Traffic Inspector with the Ministry of Transport. Mr Smith managed 23 Road Traffic Inspectors who were stationed between Kaitaia and Pukekohe, and partook in a number of road safety education programmes, including teaching defensive driving skills to adults.
