Description
A composing stone used in printing. It is made of cast iron, machined top and sides with rubbed underside. Very heavy. It was used for assembling lead type (hot metal), in this instance linotype slugs, Ludlow slugs into chases for printing. Although, in this case, the page chases would have been used to make stereos. This stone would have also been used with galley type.
