Brief History
Numbered Conductor hat badges such as this one, and similar Motorman badges, were introduced when A.E. Ford became the General Manager of the Auckland City Corporation Tramways. They were intended to allow identification of tram crews for Inspectors and passenger complaints. They were in use from the 1920s through until the early 1950s.
