Brief History
The Auckland Regional Authority (ARA) came into being in 1964, replacing the Auckland Transport Board (ATB). Greatcoats such as this would have been worn by a bus or trolleybus driver in the ARA Bus Division before there were heaters on buses. The dark blue colour was inherited from the ATB and was later replaced by green uniforms when ARA rebranded.

The A.R.A is Auckland Regional Authority (Bus Division). The ARA came into being in 1964 replacing the ATB. The dark blue siege is a tide over from the ATB. Would have been used by a Bus or Trolleybuses driver in the days before heaters and air conditioning on buses. Superseded by the Green ARA uniforms as they rebranded.
