Description
"Coaching began in New Zealand in the 1860s and for over 50 years remained the chief means of private and public transport throughout the country. As a mode of travel, coaching was often exciting, eventful, uncomfortable, and hazardous. This is made plain by J. Wylde's previously unpublished account, printed here, of a coach journey over Arthur's Pass in 1868. His is a colourful record of the real thing."--blurb
