Description
TEAL Khaki Summer Stewardess Jacket. Khaki, 3-buttoned, single-breasted tunic with pointed lapel. Buttons are gold-coloured with TEAL logo of "TEA" intertwined in crest and wings coming out from either side. Buttons are attached with metal clip. Black epaulettes on each shoulder with a narrow white band going across it close to the shoulder. The other end is secured with a TEAL button, 2 pockets - one on each side. On the left hand chest is a TEAL pin (may not be original to the tunic). It is a black crest with 'T' and 'A' intertwined with one gold wing. It is attached by a piece of yellow wire. Grey lining throughout the interior.
Brief History
This is the summer uniform worn by TEAL stewardesses from 1949 – 1960. It included a high-wasted skirt, with a short-sleeve silk shirt, a tie and blazer. The in-flight uniform consisted of a white belted shirt dress at a typical 1950s mid-calf length. Both uniforms were worn with black high-heeled shoes and came with either a black handbag or a brown satchel bag.

TEAL primarily flew international flights to Australia and throughout the Pacific, operating during the 1950s with a fleet of flying boats. From October 1953 TEAL became jointly owned by the New Zealand and Australian Governments and in 1961 the New Zealand Government took full ownership of the company.
