Brief History
Tower wagons could be seen throughout the city and the suburban areas of Auckland during the tram and trolley bus era. Overhead wires could become detached from a span wire and, once reported by a passing tram, a repair tower wagon would be dispatched to fix the problem.

This truck was operated by the Auckland Transport Board between 1924 and 1951. It is fitted with a three-section tower which is raised by mechanical power takeoff.

Discussed in Feb 1990 The Automobile Page 44 Commercially Speaking by Nick Baldwin-NZ tower qv - In New Zealand the Auckland Regional Authority has nearly completed the restoration of a tower wagon that was delivered to Auckland City Tramways by Leyland Motors in June 1924; It is a Model C chassis number 19786; with tower and bodywork by an unknown supplier; possibly in England; The Leyland was in service to about 1951; when it was sold to a fruit grower; after fifteen years around the orchards it was rescued minus radiator; a new one has been made and engine re-built with 80% of the bodywork qv (all) pity no photo. My on going Hobby since I was 12 and I now a youthful looking 58 year old male id documenting automotive magazines from cover to cover - I believe I have worldest biggest database database index of over 40 publications from mainy publication date 1947-2001 (although at times I gone outside those years older or newer) . Current project is working through early 1990s issues of The Automobile magazine - a most excellent mag and few other British classic mags
