Two audio CDs using as a central theme The 1953 Tangiwai railway distaster from the book 'The Falling' by Alan Loney. Described as kind of memoir. Readings from the book are interspersed with interviews from survivors, reporters and families of survivors. Dedication in memoriam to Robert Joseph Hale 1939 to 1953. Features the voices of John Archer, Alan Loney, Tom Duffy, Delia Holman, Graham Stewart, Trish Gray, Rangitihi Tahuparai, Bob Norley; Interviews with Bert Sutcliffe and Bob Blair. Archival material supplied by The Sound Archive and Radio New Zealand Sound Library. Alan Loney read from his book 'The Falling : a memoir' published AUP, 2001. The reading recorded in the Melbourne Studios of the ABC by Rhianon Brown and Paul Penton.. The ballad 'The Pillows of the Dead' written and performed by John Archer.
