Description
-1 Bubble Sextant Mark IX, navigational instrument, black, metal, for taking bearings from the stars. The eye-piece is fitted into a rubber surround. The back and base form a 90° right angle. The back has the rubber eye-piece. There are 2 cylindrical tubes on either side of the central casing. Inside the casing, is an elongated mirror. There are 2 metal adjustment wheels on the left side and 3 metal adjustment wheels on the right side. These alter the declinature and degrees.
-2 Case - wooden, reddish varnish finish. The base is rectangular. The front and back sides of the case are different heights. The back wall is 170 mm and the front wall is 75 mm. The sides of the box are angled down from the back wall to the front. The lid is hinged off this back wall of the box and is secured in the front by 2 metal catches. There is a leather strap secured by metal fittings to the side of the case. The inside of the box has metal clips screwed to the floor of the case. The sides and top of the case are lined with a plastic foam or rubber.
