The Defence Medal, 1939-1945 RNZAF award. T-bar with ribbon. The ribbon is blue, black and orange. The silver T-bar is fixed to the top of the round, silver medal. The front of the medal reads: 1939-1945 "THE DEFENCE MEDAL". It has a crown with 2 rampant lions. On the back of the medal is the head of George VI. The wording is: GEORGIUS VI D:G:BR:MN:REX F:D:IND:IMR
