Description
Blue wool tunic with collar and lapel. There are 4 brass buttons down the front of the jacket, on the right flap, and 4 corresponding button holes on the left. There is a pleated breast pocket on either side with scalloped edge cover flap and securing brass button. Above the left breast pocket is an embroidered pilot's badge: the letters 'NZ' surrounded by a laurel wreath, topped with a crown and flanked by wings. The buttons feature a crown flanked by the letters 'NZ' on top of a bird in flight. Below the right breast pocket, is an opening for an interior pocket. There is a side pocket with cover flap and securing button each side. At each shoulder is a badge with 'NEW ZEALAND' embroidered on it.
On each sleeve cuff is a stripe of black/blue/black. At the back, there is a vertical slit running from the hem to the waist. At the waist, is a belt that is attached at the back. At one end is a brass belt buckle. At the other, are 3 sets of 2 holes. The 2 ends of the belt also attach with a snap. The inside is lined with blue cotton lining. The sleeves are lined with a striped, cream-coloured cotton. There are 3 horizontal openings for interior pockets: 2 on the right jacket flap and one on the left. Below the interior breast pocket, on the right side, is a triangular swatch of tartan sewn in. Above the interior breast pocket, on the left side, is a leather tab with a button hole in it. At the collar, above the labels, is a wool tab (maybe used for hanging the tunic).
