Description
Blue wool tunic with collar and lapel. There are 4 buttons down the front of the jacket on the right jacket flap and there are 4 corresponding button holes on the left. The top 3 brass buttons have a crown and a bird in flight on them. The bottom button is a plain brass button. There is a pleated breast pocket on either side. The pockets are lined and have a cover flap with a scalloped edge. The cover flaps are secured with a brass button with a crown and bird on it, and 2 snaps each. Above the left breast pocket is an Observers badge and 6 medal ribbons. The badge is embroidered and it features the letter 'O' with a wing on the right side. The colour sequences of the ribbons and their corresponding medals are as follows:
Purple/white (DFC)
Navy blue/red/light blue (1939-45 Star)
Black/yellow/blue/yellow/black with silver rosette (Air Crew Europe Star and Bar)
Green/black/green/orange/green/black/green (Defence Medal)
Red/blue/white/red/white/blue/red (War Medal)
White/black/white (NZ War Medal)
At the sleeve cuffs, there are 3 stripes of black/blue/black. At the back, there are 2 small slits coming up from the hem - one on each side. At the waist, there is a wool belt attached at the back. There is a brass buckle on one end and 3 sets of 2 holes on the other side. There is a snap on either side of the belt. Inside the jacket is a blue lining and the sleeves have a cream-coloured lining. There is an opening for an interior breast pocket on the left side. There is a tab at the collar, probably used to hang the jacket.
