Description
No.1 tunic with collar and lapel. There are 4 brass buttons down the front of the right jacket flap and 4 corresponding button holes down the left. There is a pleated breast pocket on either side. The pockets are lined and have a scalloped edge cover flap with securing brass button. Above the left breast pocket is an embroidered Observers badge and 6 medal ribbons. The badge features the letter 'O' with a wing on the right side. The colour sequences of the ribbons and their corresponding medals are as follows:
Purple/white (DFC)
Navy blue/red/light blue (1939-45 Star)
Black/yellow/blue/yellow/black with silver rosette (Air Crew Europe Star and Bar)
Green/black/green/orange/green/black/green (Defence Medal)
Red/blue/white/red/white/blue/red (War Medal)
White/black/white (NZ War Medal)
There is a side pocket on either side with cover flaps securing brass button. All of the buttons on the uniform have a crown on top of a bird in flight (RAF buttons). At the sleeve cuffs are 3 stripes of black/blue/black. There is a slit at the back of the jacket from hem to waist. At the waist, there is a belt that is attached at the back. There is a brass buckle at one end and 3 sets of 2 holes on the other. There is a snap near the belt buckle and on the tip of the strap. Inside, the jacket is lined with blue cotton, and the sleeves are lined with cream-coloured fabric. There are 2 interior pockets, one left breast pocket and one right side pocket. There is a tab at the collar used to hang the tunic.
