Description
Blue wool dress tunic with collar. Down the front of the jacket are 6 black buttons. The top button has a silver ring around it. There are 6 button holes on a piece of denim lining on the left jacket flap. At the shoulders are blue wool epaulettes, one on each side, that are attached near the collar with a black button. At the top of each sleeve, near the shoulder, is an embroidered 'New Zealand' badge. There is a pleated breast pocket on either side. The pockets have scalloped edge cover flaps that are lined with denim and that close with a single black button. Above the left pocket is an embroidered pilot's badge: the letters 'NZ' surrounded by a laurel wreath, topped with a crown and flanked by a set of wings. At the waist, is a wool strap that fits into a silver buckle on a wool tab and a wool belt loop, on the right side of the jacket.
The sleeve cuffs are lined with denim and are closed with a single black button each. Tunic is pleated at the back at the waist. Inside, the collar, button seams and waist are lined with denim. At the waist, is a second piece of denim lining that has 3 button holes in it. There is an inside pocket on either side made of brown denim. There is a rectangular patch of brown denim at either shoulder, perhaps to reinforce the areas where the epaulette buttons are sewn in. The arm hole seams are reinforced with brown piping. Writing on right inside pocket below tag not legible (too faded).
