Description
Blue-grey wool jacket with collar and lapels. There are 4 black buttons down the right jacket flap and there are 4 corresponding button holes on a hidden piece of blue wool so that the buttons are not seen on the outside of the jacket. There is a breast pocket with denim lining on either side of the jacket. The pockets are pleated with a cover flap with a scalloped edge. The flaps are secured with a hidden black button each. Above the left breast pocket is a navigator's badge and six medal bars. The colour sequences of the bars and their corresponding medals are:
Navy blue/red/light blue (1939-45 Star).
Blue/white/red/white/blue (France and Germany medal).
Green/black/green/orange/green/black/green (Defence Medal).
Red/blue/white/red/white/blue/red (War Medal).
White/black/white (NZ War Medal).
Green/grey/green/grey/green (?)

The Navigator's badge is embroidered with the letter 'N' surrounded by a laurel wreath and a wing on the right side. At the waist, on the left jacket flap, is a strap. It corresponds with the metal belt buckle and wool belt loop at the waist, on the left jacket flap. On each shoulder, is a wool epaulette adorned with 2 stripes of black/white/black. Each epaulette is attached near the collar with a single black button. These 2 buttons have a crown on them flanked by the letters 'NZ', and above a bird in flight. The cuffs are lined with denim and are closed with a hidden black button each. The jacket is pleated at the waist, both at the front and the back. Inside the jacket, the waist is lined with denim and there is a second strip of denim with 3 button holes sewn into it. There are 2 interior pockets, both made of denim. At the shoulders, there is a denim square sewn in (perhaps to reinforce the area where the buttons from the epaulettes are sewn in). Between the 2 squares, on the collar, is a denim tab used to hang the jacket. The seams around the armholes have been reinforced with piping.
