Description
Blue wool battle dress jacket with collar and lapel. There are 4 black buttons down the right flap of the jacket and 4 hidden button holes on the left side. There is a pleated breast pocket with denim lining on either side of the jacket. The pockets have a cover flap with a scalloped edge and a button to close them. Above the left breast pocket, is an observers badge and 6 medal bars. The badge has gold embroidery and it depicts the letter 'O' with a wing on its right side. The bars are arranged in 2 rows. Their colour sequences and corresponding medals are as follows:
Navy blue/red/light blue (1939-45 Star).
Blue/white/red/white/blue (France and Germany medal).
Green/black/green/orange/green/black/green (Defence Medal).
Red/blue/white/red/white/blue/red (War Medal).
White/black/white (NZ War Medal).
Yellow/blue/red/green/red/light blue/yellow.
At the waist is a strap on the left jacket flap. There is a silver buckle and a belt loop on the right side. At each shoulder is an epaulette adorned with 2 stripes (black, blue, black). The epaulettes are attached on either side of the collar with a silver button each. The buttons have a crown flanked by the letters 'NZ', above a bird in flight. The cuffs have a single black hidden button each and are lined with blue denim. Inside the jacket the waist is reinforced with blue denim. There is a second band of denim at the back of the jacket with 3 button holes in it. There are 2 side interior pockets, both made of denim. There is a denim tab at the collar used to hang the jacket. It is flanked by 2 square pieces of denim used to reinforce the epaulettes. The seams around the armholes are reinforced with brown piping.
