Description
Grey wool jacket with collar and lapels. Down the front of the right jacket flap are 4 black buttons and there are 4 corresponding "hidden" button holes on the left jacket flap. The first and third buttons from the top have birds on them. There is a pleated breast pocket with cover flap and denim lining on either side. The cover flaps are secured with one "hidden" button each. Above the left breast pocket is a pilot's badge and 2 rows of medal bars. The badge is embroidered with the letters NZ surrounded by a laurel wreath, topped with a crown and flanked by wings. There are 7 individual medal bars. Their colour sequences and corresponding medals are:
Navy blue/red/light blue (1939-45 Star).
Black/yellow/blue/yellow/black (Air Crew Europe Star).
Cream/black/cream/orange/cream/blue/cream.
Green/black/green/orange/green/black/green (Defence Medal),
Red/blue/white/red/white/blue/red (War Medal).
White/black/white (NZ War Medal).
Yellow/blue/red/green/red/blue/yellow.
At the waistband of the jacket is a strap on the left flap that fits into the buckle and belt loop on the right side. On the edge of the right jacket flap is a button loop that holds the button on the waist of the left jacket flap on the inside. On both shoulders are wool epaulettes adorned with 3 stripes of black/white/black. The epaulette on the left shoulder is secured with a black button decorated with a bird. The cuffs of the sleeves are lined with denim and secured by a "hidden" button. The back of the jacket is pleated at the waist. The button seams and the waist have been reinforced with blue denim on the inside. There are 2 interior pockets made of denim. At the waist, there is a band of blue denims, one on either side. Seams of armholes are reinforced with beige piping.
