Description
Navy blue, wool jacket with collar and lapel. There are 5 black buttons down the right jacket flap. There are 5 corresponding button holes on the left jacket flap. They are covered with the blue wool outer fabric and are hidden from view. On each shoulder is an epaulette of blue wool and adorned with 2 stripes of black, blue, black. The epaulettes are attached near the collar with one black button each. These 2 buttons have a crown flanked by the letters NZ, above a bird in flight. There is a pleated pocket with a cover flap on each side. The pockets are lined with blue denim and are secured by a hidden button each. Above the left pocket is a badge of an RNZAF pilot. The badge is embroidered with the letter NZ surrounded by a laurel wreath, topped by a red and gold crown, and flanked by gold wings.
At the waist of the jacket, on the left jacket flap, is a strap that fits into the buckle and belt loop on the right jacket flap. The cuffs of the sleeves are lined in blue denim and closed with a single black button each. The back of the jacket is pleated at the waistline. Inside the jacket, the button seams and the waistline are reinforced with a blue denim lining. On the waistline, there is a second band of blue denim that has 3 button holes in it. There are 2 interior pockets made of blue denim. At the collar, on either side, is a blue denim rectangular tab sewn in (perhaps to reinforce the epaulette buttons). On the collar is a tab used to hang the jacket. The seams at the armholes are reinforced with brown piping. There is a white tab underneath the coat hanging tab - it appears to have been cut off.
